Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals

These blocks are still on the design wall--

Every day I try to sew a few more blocks together.  But I've been busy doing this--

Quilting!  I'm in a quilting marathon.  This quilt is Double Square Star pattern by Missouri Star (top #4 in the marathon).  There are lots of tops to be quilted before I start volunteering this summer.  If I quilt three per week I will catch up.  Impossible?  Maybe.  But I'll give it my best.  Unfortunately that means piecing time will be scarce.  But piecing keeps me sane so I'll fit some in between quilting.

Did I tell you I've started a new online club?  You're invited to join!  Its the VAA club!  Velcro Asses Anonymous--its when my butt is stuck to the recliner and I can't get up!  Usually I drink coffee and do handwork.  Here is my current project--

I pin YoYos to my recliner and work on them during VAA meetings.  VAA meetings are any time.  Some days I have lots of VAA meetings.

 Weekly Goals--

Quilt a Boy Top
More YoYos
Sew More Binding
Sew More 9 Patches Together
Sew Green Glass blocks together
Same goals as last week.   I'm linking with Small Quilts and Doll Quilts and LoveLaughQuilt.

Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals

The weekend was spent with the Iowa Sweat Shop Ladies.  Here is what I worked on-

9 Patch parts.  Lots of 9 patch parts!  First were 9 patches for Chocolates on my Pillow, that project was worked on until I needed more background.  Next I sewed strips for the Honeycomb quilt.  Stitch, press, repeat.  Over and over.  I used the Stripology ruler and cut them all apart.

The Iowa ladies are lots of fun.  LaVon the Overseer keeps us all in line--

Here she is supervising Donna's layout.  I was very good this weekend, LaVon only shook her finger at me once!

Lorri2Rs scored a new machine at the 2nd hand store--

A Singer 404 that is like new!  2Rs used it all weekend.  She's fast and makes a great stitch.  Cost-$20!

Have I told you how fast 2Rs sews?  She asked me to wind some bobbins for her (her bobbin tire needs replacing).  I had been whining about the dirty cover on my pressing table--

While I wound the bobbins she made me this--

A new removable cover!  And she also made me this--

A Maxine mug rug!   Coffee is essential to the start of my day.  Maybe not 12 cups, but!!!

Two partial spools of thread were emptied.  I challenged Liz of Houston to use a new cone of thread--

Here's the challenge--Liz will try to use the entire cone by February 2019.  If she does I will send her FQs.  The Guttermann (Spooly Jr Jr) shown above has 547 yards--it takes almost 22 spools like that to equal "Spooly" as Liz has named him.

Weekly Goals--

Quilt a Boy Top
More YoYos
Sew More Binding
Sew More 9 Pathes Together
Sew Green Glass blocks together

There will be lots of sewing/quilting this week.  Its cold and windy outside, good sewing weather!  I'm linking with Quilting is More Fun than Housework, LiveLaughQuilt, and Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals

Made the first Double Irish Chain block using 30s repros and brown--

The dark solid brown is the background.  All the strip sets are made.  My sewing area is "somewhat messy" so labeling/organization is the key--

The strip sets are pinned together with post it notes attached.  Once blocks are sewn together and ready to quilt they earn a spot on the Organization Wall.

Notes on the left are tops not quilted, notes on the right are quilted but not finished.  They have the size of the top on it and if a backing is ready.  See the bag hanging on the wall from the shelf hook?  If a binding is made for a top it goes in the bag and write it on the post it note. Its an empty bag, I sewed five bindings on this week building a binding mountain.  Handwork for the Olympics.  Once a top is finished and I've reported it on my blog and Stashbusters--I toss the note!  The Orange 30s Strippy is loaded and ready to quilt.   I'm linking with Quilting is More Fun Than Housework, Love Laugh Quilt, and Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

Weekly Goals--

Quilt the Orange Top
More YoYos
Sew More Binding
Sew Strip Sets Together

Its going to be a short week, I'm hoping to sew with the Iowa Sweat Shop Ladies next weekend.  Not sure what I'll take along but I'm sure I have projects!

Design Wall Monday-Stash Report-Weekly Goals

Its been busy.  Friday I drove to 2Rs house and we went to the Iowa Retreat on Saturday.

We sewed in one large room.  Its was lots of fun!  2Rs was a social butterfly--that's what she enjoys.  She says she can always sew at home, but she comes to visit with all the other quilters!

She brought handwork and a light.  But most of the time her chair was empty.  Where was she?  Here--

The rummage sale!  She loves a bargain!  After the retreat (its only for one day) we stopped to eat on the way home--

Great food.  And a chance to sit and rest.  We slept in and the next morning we started sewing--

More microwave bowl and plate holders.  We shopped 2Rs stash.  A large bag of fabric came home with me, more angel fabric, some 1930s repros, and a big piece of blue/brown geometric print will become borders on a boy quilt.  I drove home in time to see the last half of the Superbowl.  Congratulations Eagles!

Added this week--29.50 yds
Add YTD 54.50 yds
Out this week--58.25yds

I'm ahead 3.75 yds!

I bought a bolt of neutral--25 yards.  4.5yds of Brown 1930's repros.  I used 57.75 yds in quilts and .50 yards in the Snowman wall hanging.

These will become the center chain in a Double Irish Chain using the last of the 1930s repros. The background will be brown, that should make the light 30's pop.

Weekly Goals--

quilt another top
press the strips sewn at retreat
start the Double Irish chain
sew a binding on a quilted top

These will keep me busy.  I'm linking up with MCM, Love Laugh Quilt, Small Quilts & Doll Quilts, and Quilting is More Fun than Housework.

Playing Catchup

Its been busy!  Thanksgiving has come and gone, soon it will be Christmas.  We got our vaccinations a couple weeks ago--Covid, RSV, Influena...
