I'm Back

I've been gone a long time.  Nothing wrong, just didn't feel I had anything blogworthy to share.  I'm still struggling with my shoulder, it limits my cutting, piecing, folding, pressing.  But, I can quilt fairly easy.  So I've been doing that.  Lots of quilts on the binding mountain, I plan to practice machine binding on them, hand binding will be limited to special projects.  I love hand sewing binding, but my right arm does not!  This is the last top I quilted--Uneven 9 Patches I made last summer in the camper, I had a tote of precut 5" scraps I raided.

These were made using Susie's Scraps Tutorial.  Stashbusters (Stashbuster IO Group) has a weekly challenge involving cleaning, sewing, UFOs, etc.  Last week it was "pull out your oldest UFO".  I'm sure I have older UFOs, but I worked on this one--

Its pre2006, the blocks were sewn in rows, Bonnie Hunter Chunky Churn Dashes.  I rearranged a few blocks, and now the flimsy is together.  With all the quilting going on I've used a lot of thread, I ordered more neutrals--

The Princess likes poly wrapped poly thread and so do I.  Its cheap, easily available, and quilts beautifully.  This brand is OMNI from Missouri Star, but its all made by Superior Thread.  Permacore is the same thing and I use that too.  This is my thread stash--

With all the quilting I ordered more batting--

This is a 96" 30 yard roll of Pellon 80/20 from Walmart.  I also ordered a 100% poly 30 yard roll.  I carefully check prices, and so far Walmart has the best price with free delivery if you order over $35.  While I've been gone I had a birthday and we took a mini vacation.  We saw this cool car--

And I took a selfie while on the way home--
Asher had a birthday--

Christmas has come and gone, but I've left my angels out because I like them--

And so life rolls along.

Welcome back! I'm sorry your shoulder is still causing problems - but I'm glad you got to take a little mini vacation.

Love that first quilt. The variation of colors is wonderful. PS - I leave my angels out all year.

Good to see you back! Sorry about the shoulder. I, too, am now binding my quilts by machine because of hand issues. I use binding strips cut at 2.25" I stitch mine down on the front just like I am going to do hand binding. Fold the binding over on the back past the stitching line and stitch in the ditch from the front. Looks so good and just like hand binding from the front.

What a pleasant surprise to see your post in my blog reader this morning. I sew nearly all of my bindings on the machine. I use a decorative stitch and it looks good - lots faster, too.

Welcome back! You have indeed been gone a long time. I haven't put anything new on my blog in so long I'm thinking of deleting it. Interest just waned.

But then right now I'm not interested in much of anything. Our son suddenly passed away last Tuesday of an undetected heart problem. Only 43 and left behind a wife and 6yr. old twins. I'm either weepy or numb by turns. Mostly just sit and scroll through the internet. I suppose I'll eventually pull myself together but have no interest in sewing or even petting fabric right now.

Take care of that shoulder. A cousin of mind was scheduled for either today or yesterday to have one replaced.

Nice to see your post, Lori! Once you get the hang of machine binding you'll get those quilts finished in no time. Hope your shoulder heals quickly!

P.S. The first Blockswappers' exchange was for Chunky Churn Dashes back in 2006. Yikes, 14 years and a couple of thousand yards ago.....
