Moonflowers

My Moonflowers are blooming--

An innocuous looking flower but it smells HEAVENLY!!  And the flowers are big, I held my hand beside it for comparison--

They are a night blooming species, opening at dusk and staying open all night, closing in the morning.  They will also open on cloudy days.  This flower is above my head, so sniffing its fragrance is not easy.  One of these days I'm going to snort a bumblebee as they like my flowers too!!  Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Friday Fun

I miss sewing.  Sigh  I will do as much sewing as possible this winter!  But for now I've been crocheting.  Simple items, pot scrubbies and wash cloths.  I was tired of the yarn I had, needed more colors so I waited for a sale and free shipping--

Not the start of a big yarn stash, it all fits in a cardboard box.  I immediately tried a new color out--

Not sure what I'll do with them all.  Perhaps the grandsons can give them to their teachers at Christmas?  I like practical gifts--these are one size fits all!  Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Fishing without a pole, hook, or line

There are lots of fishermen at this campground.  James is a ranger and loves outdoor activities.  But his fishing is a little less common--James spear fishes.  This was his catch earlier this week--

Four walleye and a BIG bass.  GO JAMES!!!  Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Celebrating on Wednesday!!

Happy birthday to a big man with a big heart!  Howard is not one for sweets, so made an apple pie instead. Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Wednesday

Will be a quiet day at the campground.  Soon we will be packing and heading south.

The flowers are a bit wind whipped but still blooming--

These dahlias are a favorite--I love the yellow centers with peach then white edges.

I call these zinnias "frizzles"--they are planted in hard soil, underneath is packed gravel like an old road.  These were started from seeds, hardy plants.

While I had my camera out a Sphinx Moth was feeding from a morning glory.

We are having cooler nights.  I got up Monday and it was 61F in the camper.

I snuggled underneath a quilt and turned the furnace on!   Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Winding Down

Camping season will be winding down.  Over Labor Day the kids came to visit.  They have grown so much.

9th, 6th, and 3rd grade.  Mason is taking drivers ed.  Rocky is the family dog--

Rocky is a Rhodesian Ridgeback, tall enough he can look on my kitchen counters and weighs 137#.  He is a laid back dog, give him a blanket on the floor and he's happy.

Because I miss sewing I shopped.  Ordered three jelly rolls and each one qualified for 8 free assorted FQs.  I am thinking of a quilt using lighter pastels with a darker background--probably a Irish Chain type quilt.  I love scrappy quilts so random FQs can be used.

We've gone from 103F to 68F.  Overcast with a few rain sprinkles.  My flowers were wind whipped and baked, they are a little tattered.  Its getting to be fall.  Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Bob is stuck

Bob does the mowing here at the campground.  He got stuck going across a shallow ditch--not in the mud but hung up with no traction.

So Howard brought his jeep and a chain--

and he was quickly pulled out!

It will be another hot day, a good day for a nap.  All the campers stay inside on days like today.  Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Tuesday

Its going to be hot--106F is the forecast.  😳  Pray the air conditioners keep up!

This weekend was the Pow Wow in Fort Thompson.  We celebrated by eating Indian Tacos--

I LOVE Indian Tacos!

The zinnias are blooming, I love zinnias and they never disappoint, they grow even in poor soil.

And the morning glory's are blooming, I have several varieties, I think this one is Carnival--

And the purple are Grandpa Ott and the blue are Heavenly Blue.

More wash cloths are being made, they keep my hands busy.  Lori1R at the Workhouse on the River

Wednesday and we're SMOKING!!

Should be the "slow" day this week, but its going to busy on the weekend.  Pow Wow here at Fort Thompson and last weekend the Pow Wow was at Lower Brule. (we are in the middle between them.)  LOTS of people!  We're going to smoke ribs--they are marinating with the rub on them.  A new smoker was bought on the advice of our neighbor Chad who kept sending me pictures of his efforts--

Doesn't that look delicious??  Chad and Allison raised the chickens last year, see how plump they are??  The smoker/grill we bought is a Pit Boss Lexington pellet grill/smoker.  Still experimenting with it but its been good so far.

This was on the railing of the booth--he was a handsome specimen!

Time to get back to work!  Lori1R at the Campground Workhouse

Soggy Saturday

So far 2.5" of rain and more showers forecast for today.  70F and overcast--feels good after its been so hot.  Bob the Mower Man was worried he'd have nothing to do but the grass will grow fast now.

No sewing happening, most my day is spent working.  When I have slow bits of time I crochet.  Nothing fancy--

So far +20 wash cloths--the diamond design just happened, I think its called "pooling".  Wash cloths are small and easily dropped and picked up again.  A simple pattern that makes a dense wash cloth.  All triggered by DD getting ready for work and no clean wash cloths, so DD used a SOCK.  Teehee, I asked if it was a clean sock, and she said "OF COURSE IT WAS A CLEAN SOCK!!"  I am using a 100% cotton yarn.  Not pretty but utilitarian.  Crocheting when its slow hopefully to keep from eating peanut butter M&Ms.  Lori1R at the Campground on the River

Still Here

I'm still here.  Still working each summer at the campground but last winter we were in New Mexico.  Not as much time to sew but I manage to keep busy!  No garden but I am growing flowers in pots.

This was earlier this spring--

And today--

The dahlias are blooming like crazy.

I planted zinnias and different morning glories as they are very hardy.  A bag of glad bulbs on clearance were tossed in the pots, this is the first one to bloom--

I hope to blog more often but working 7 days a week from April 30th to October 1st means there isn't always something to blog about.  Lori1R at the Campground in Central South Dakota

Playing Catchup

Its been busy!  Thanksgiving has come and gone, soon it will be Christmas.  We got our vaccinations a couple weeks ago--Covid, RSV, Influena...
