I Have A Finish/RSC Saturday

This fall I finished a quilt, the Jacob's Ladder--
It's a big quilt, 88x94 or close to that.  The border is a dark purple.  The backing is flannel I dyed what I call "tired grape".
Quilted with the panto Teeter Totter.  I made these blocks over several months, the HST in each block were whatever the RSC color was that month.  Very scrappy, whatever odds & ends I found.  I didn't want a square quilt so added the picket fence at the top and bottom.  (Its hanging sideways on the fence).  How much fabric?  16 yards I'll guess, lots of piecing.  I'm linking to SoScrappy.

Design Wall Monday

Earlier this year I made 56 Churn Dash blocks as a RSC project.  Last week I pulled them out to see if I had a plan.  Nope. There were lots of pink, yellow, orange, green and some blue blocks.  I had seen a picture of a quilt that alternated Churn Dash and Greek Cross blocks.  That would be easy, I can use the same Accuquilt die to cut the Greek Cross blocks.  Browns, purples, reds, and a black were cut and sewn up.  Dee said to "lay out my blocks to see".  Great advice Dee!
A happy design accident!  The darker Greek Cross blocks stand out and look like straight setting, the the lighter Churn Dash blocks recede and look like the diagonal setting they are.  More blocks to be made, I have enough cut for two boy quilts.  Each will have 30 Churn Dash and 20 Greek Cross.  I did not rearrange these blocks AT ALL when I laid them out, but after I took a photo to study I could see the possibilities.  Not everything went as smoothly--
A date with "Jack".  I'm linking with Oh Scrap, Monday Making, and Design Wall Monday.

Friday the 13th I had a fling!  I delivered 13 boy quilts to my guild's donation coordinator.
These quilts were 70-75" x 80-100".  Mary in SD, Dee in Nebraska, and Liz in Houston all made tops.  Judy B in MN donated many of the backings.  Mary also bound several of the quilts.  I made quilts.  Some quilts all I did was quilt and supply the batting.  Many friends shared fabric. They filled the back seat of the pickup--
This was truly a group effort, thank you everyone!

I have a hibiscus named "Marvy".  He is supposed to start going dormant, be pruned, and rest up for next year.  Nope, not doing that yet--
10 huge flowers with at least that many buds.  How big are those flowers?
As big as my hand!   I brought in two hibiscus and two mandevilla to overwinter.  They were all growing happily and I could not bear to let them freeze, they are tropical flowers, when it drops below 50° they are unhappy.

Happy Monday!

Ladder of Success

November 1st, time to start Ladder of Success by Judy Martin!
It was published in the May/June 2012 issue of Quiltmaker magazine.
I am ready to start cutting, I've prewashed my black and have picked the white background.  This will also be a new start for 2021 IJDC Challenge on Stashbusters@groups.io.  IJDC is "Inspiration Journal/Document Challenge".  Its a challenge to start a project on your bucket list.  Would you like to join me??

November OMG

November is wide open for goals!  There are several projects that require a design wall, so that will be my goal--empty the design wall!  Currently there are two projects on the wall.   First layer is Bricks & Stepping Stones--
and pinned on top of those is Beaded Lanterns--
November OMG is to get these blocks to finished flimsies.  Several projects need the design wall as the next step.  I'm linking with Elm Street Quilts OMG.

October OMG

Guess I needed a bigger goal for October--the Crossed Canoe blocks were easy--
We packed up the camper last Thursday--
and got home in time to winterize it before the snow on Saturday.  Still lots of stuff to unpack, mostly clothes and items that freezing weather won't hurt.  Its going to be warm weather for the next two weeks, we will bring in the rest of it then.  I'm linking with Elm Street Quilts OMG.

Design Wall Monday

Bricks and Stepping Stones rows are being sewn together--
I am quite happy to allow the fabrics be random BUT--
I did change out one of these!  The squirrel is still being VERY friendly--I hear him hanging on my door handle, you can't mistake the scrabbling of those claws/feet.  I am sure he would come in if the door was open.  He must be bringing friends, there were four squirrels outside a few days ago.  I'm linking with Love Laugh Quilt, Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, and Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework.

Design Wall Monday

Naragansett Green (Naragansett Blues/Bonnie Hunter) has all its rows sewn together--
If you see a turned block--please tell me!  I've put it back in its project box while I ponder borders.  Next I pulled two more project boxes out of the closet--
This project box has 56 9" finished Churn Dash blocks in it with the precut background.  Which muslin background I used is written on the note.  The other blocks are Around and Around, the block directions plus more background is in there too.  Hmm, not today.  Something easy!  Bricks and Stepping Stones!  Its a favorite scrappy pattern (Bonnie Hunter), you can see more notes--the baggie has 108 black/white 4 patches plus a big pile of bricks.  Should I feel like putting more together, there are plenty of b/w 4 patches and 318 bricks cut from scrap taming earlier this year.  I sewed enough Bricks and Stepping Stones in vertical rows for a boy size quilt.  (Turned the pic to fit the page).  There are 176 Bricks and 4 patches, 22 vertical rows.

Starting Tuesday I will work every day until the campground closes on the 19th.  Sigh.  I'm not ready for camping season to end!

RSC--RED

RSC has been neglected this summer--working and life has kept me busy.  This week I snuck in some sewing time--
These were cut using the Accuquilt BOB die, it is so easy to piece these odd shaped blocks (9" finished).  All the dark fabrics were given to me, the lighter neutral was found last year on a clearance table at I Bee Quiltin' in Norfolk Nebraska.  2Rs and I stop every chance we can, its on the way to Dee's house!  I'm linking to SoScrappy RSC.

October OMG

October will be busy!  Just a small goal.  This summer I bought a Crossed Canoes BOB.
I want to make a few blocks to see if I like them.
Red is the RSC color from September so I pulled some red scraps.  I will make four Crossed Canoe blocks.   That will be my goal for October.  I'm linking with Elm Street Quilts OMG.

Would you believe.....

I recently started using online ordering of groceries.
Today was my 2nd effort.  I was combining three errands--hauling a friend's large canoe to our house to be picked up later, taking extra fabric and other items I won't use the rest of the year in the camper home, and picking up groceries.  When you place your online order you have to send a vehicle description (red pickup) and pick a time slot (2-3pm).  You park in designated spots and call to say you are waiting, which spot, and your name.  Sounds easy!  Okay, I am driving a BIG red pickup, pulling a 16 ft canoe.
I call, tell them I am parked in spots 5 to 8, red pickup & pulling a canoe.
I watch a blue pickup pulling a kayak park down the row.  The grocery person brings my groceries to my truck, verifies my last name, loads my groceries in the back seat.  Still sounds great, right?  I decide to drop my groceries back at the camper.   Pull out the first bag.  ???? Look in rest of bags.  ????  Not my groceries!!!  I call the store and explain.  I am on hold quite a while.  Much apologizing by store.  Would I mind coming back to the store to get my order?  Sure, but what do I do with the wrong order?  I was told to keep it, they do not take it back.  Gee, I hoped they had ordered ribeyes and expensive booze, maybe some chocolate??!  No, but did get 8 porkchops, popcorn, and a six pack of Dr Pepper.  Other asorted items.  Why the mixup?  Remember the pickup pulling kayak?  They had the SAME LAST NAME, said they were pulling a boat, and had bought about same amount of groceries!  We had picked same pickup time.  I wonder what they thought of some items in my order?  A whole pineapple, Cheetoes, a case of Coke, ONE PARSNIP!  I hoped they laughed as hard as I did!

September OMG

I made a big pile of YoYos in September.
Doesn't look very big but +300 YoYos in that pile.  Yesterday I cut two different fabrics for the "borders" on finished YoYo blocks.  You can see them in the small baggie.  This is a relaxing project.  I'm linking with Elm Street Quilts OMG.

Playing Catchup

Its been busy!  Thanksgiving has come and gone, soon it will be Christmas.  We got our vaccinations a couple weeks ago--Covid, RSV, Influena...
